As we twisted and turned during the night reliving the events of yesterday’s match in Tullamore, news filtered through this morning of the sad news that our Honorary Vice President Ray's hard fought battle had come to an end in the early hours of this morning.
Condolences to his wife Jackie, children Keith, Paul, Rachel, and their partners and to Ray's mother Nuala. A sad day to lose a man who for decades made an enormous contribution to all clubs in the parish.
On the 21st of April we held an event to appoint Ray as Honorary Vice President of Johnstown Bridge GAA Club. A well-attended and very emotional occasion for all in attendance. As a club we got to personally thank Ray for his roles on the club executive dating as far back as 1987. Following in his father footsteps where Billy was first a member of the club executive in 1949.
Ray's contribution did not stop at Club level. Keith, Paul and Rachel have and in Paul’s case continues to represent Kildare GAA. A phenomenal and immensely proud achievement for both Ray and Jackie.
Aside from GAA, Music was also a huge passion of Rays who travelled the world to attend concerts.
As the songwriter Irving Berlin famously said “The song is ended but the melody lingers on”
RIP Ray from Johnstown Bridge GAA
